Ever since the Outsurance ad aired on South African TV, I've noticed all the 'World something Day's' or the 'National something days'.
So I went and had a look and found the United Nation's International Observance Days, which include days like World Environment Day yesterday (5 June) and World Oceans Day on the 8 June. The aim is as follows and I quote from their website:
"United Nations observances contribute to the achievement of the purposes of the UN Charter and promote awareness of and action on important political, social, cultural, humanitarian or human rights issues. They provide a useful means for the promotion of international and national action and stimulate interest in United Nations activities and programmes."
It's makes sense that hey do this, because there are so many issues we have to give attention to, the easiest way to tackle each one is day by day.
If we can do Meat Free Mondays and create daily # on Twitter to share information about a certain thing that interests us, then lets participate in the United Nations Observance Days :)
